What do you actually do at Bettermove (in plain English)?
I respond to initial enquiries from vendors. I am the first point of call you would speak to in regard to selling your property. It’s my job to find out everything I can about your property leaving no stone unturned, once I have an understanding of how and if we can help, I then go away, present an offer and guide you through every step from the day you come on to the day you complete.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I love training in the gym and boxing on an evening after work. I can’t stand sitting still so often take advantage of the new office we have and walk around whilst I’m on the phone – I try and stay off the booze through the week so when Saturday hits who knows where I’ll end up.
What’s something people would never guess about you?
I play the piano – just not very well
What’s your favourite thing right now — a food, film, show, hobby, gadget or place you love?
Got a weird obsession with sharks, I actually swam with some in Cape Town and lived to tell the tale.
What’s the most unusual or surprising job you’ve ever had before Bettermove?
I worked in a prison very briefly after school, was a glorified tea boy but I bumped into a lot of Leeds players on my commute.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Just keep swimming
What’s your go-to guilty pleasure (food, show, snack or soundtrack)?
I really like the Jersey boys show, used to go see it loads as a kid and love listening to big girls don’t cry
What’s one thing you think Bettermove does better than anyone else?
In a crowded space where quick sale agents often have similar figures, we stand out by high energy on the phone – I often hear vendors tell me they have decided to go with us simply by the attitude that is installed in me on the phone. I think this helps our vendors genuinely get invested in what we’re saying and ultimately let us help with their sale.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about property that you wish more people understood?
Having planning permission is great but does not add an extra 100 grand to your property.
What’s the most useful skill you’ve developed since working in property?
Understanding comparables and how to value a property correctly – ‘ a property is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it’.
